As you probably know now I got a brand-new MacBook a few weeks ago. Everything seemed fine. One thing that was wrong was a tiny hairline crack. In the excitement, I didn’t really mind until a week later. The crack had started growing to about an inch long, and would just get bigger.
We thought it was necessary to take it back to be repaired/replaced. We told the staff at the store about the problem with the Mac and they completely understood and believed me. Now it comes to the irritating part. They sent it to a company called Core. They are the main Apple importer in South Africa. It took about a week for them to receive the MacBook. Once they received it, they decided to charge a repair fee. Of over R3000! That’s almost $450.
I was so irritated that they want to charge us for repairs on a product that we originally received broken.
It just shocks me how companies can do this. Until we get it sorted out we all find this ridiculous.
It is very strange that a importer like Core can be so disrespectful to their customers. I believe, as the consumer, that I should be able to fight for a replacement/repairs. Apple in the US would never do anything like this.
I deserve to get my MacBook fixed and given back to me, and not given this garbage.

Now I understand why this display is so impressive.
I cannot believe the resolution of the display in my iPod Touch.
At 960×640 screen resolution, it contains four times the pixels of the previous generations, making everything look really crisp and clear.
Text is just incredible.
I have added a screenshot of this amazing display at full resolution.

Recently at Black Hat, the Cenzic Web Security booth were giving away LED message fans:
Craig from Hacking With Gum got hold of one of these fans and decided to dismantle it.
He was in luck when finding a pin header:
There was a little chip connected to the header, and this turned out to be a Atmel I2C 2KB EEPROM chip.
With a RS-232 circuit he built, he managed to decode the EEPROM data, modify it and re-upload the program.
It turned out just great.
